The Best Family Dog

How Do We Choose a Family Dog?

Looking for the Best Family Dog?
Is it your first time getting a dog, or have you had dogs several times before? There are many breeds that make great family dogs, and you don’t have to think that it has to be a “friendly” breed. All dogs are essentially friendly and do their best, just like we, as owners, do.

Which Dog Breed Fits Us as a Family?
It can be helpful to ask yourself some questions about why you want to get a dog.

Are you prepared to:
– invest a lot of time in a family dog, at least the first year?
– adapt to the family dog’s needs?
– accept that the dog will teach you things about yourselves and your family?
– be a source of security for the dog and not the other way around? (It can become a problem if you treat the dog like a baby.)

The dog is 100% dependent on you and will need your help and guidance in a world it doesn’t understand. Therefore, it’s ideal if you learn your dog’s language so you get the best family dog, no matter what breed you choose.

What Kind of Family Are You – Where Should the Dog Fit In?
Are you active? Do you enjoy relaxing on the couch? Maybe a bit of both? It might be a good idea to choose a family dog that fits your activity level.

Here are some tips for finding the best family dog:
– a dog that is the right size
– a dog that can be handled by everyone – big or small
– a dog that isn’t specifically bred for protection or guarding
– a dog that is a good first-time dog (if this is your first dog)

It could be a good idea to check out different breeds and visit kennels to see if a specific breed fits you. You are also welcome to ask me for help.
